How Payment Works When You Sell a Used Camera: Pickup, Store and Courier

September 13, 2026

The price is only half of selling a camera. The other half is simple but important: when does the money reach you, how, and what do you need to have ready? Sellers ask us this on almost every call, so this guide puts the answers in one place.

How you are paid depends on how you sell: at a doorstep pickup, at one of our stores, or by courier. Each route is covered below, followed by the ID and invoice questions that come up most.

Doorstep pickup: paid on the spot, after the check

In our pickup cities, such as Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad, the order is always the same:

  1. Our agent checks the camera in front of you: the front, the back with the screen on, the top plate, the base with the serial number, the sensor and mount with the lens removed, and the accessories. Two short videos are recorded, one of the camera powering on and firing the shutter and one of the information screen.
  2. If the camera matches what you described online, the price stands.
  3. You are paid on the spot, then and there.

If something material is different from what you entered, the agent re-quotes on the spot with the reason, and you are free to decline. Payment only happens once you have agreed.

At a store: the same, over the counter

We have walk-in stores in Delhi (Ganesh Nagar), Pune (Katraj) and Chandigarh (Mohali). The camera is checked in front of you and paid for on the spot. Call the store before you visit so the right person is there; the store pages list the numbers and hours. Our Pune guide and Chandigarh guide explain when walking in makes sense.

Payment methods: bank transfer, UPI or cash

At pickup and at the store you can choose how you are paid:

  • Bank transfer straight into your account
  • UPI, for example through Google Pay
  • Cash

Above Rs 10,000 we prefer bank transfer. If you want the money in your account, keep your bank or UPI details ready before the agent arrives, so the payment is not held up while you look for them.

Courier: 90% in advance, 10% on arrival

If you live outside our pickup cities, you can sell by courier from anywhere in India. The payment works differently, because the camera is not in front of us:

  1. We check the camera with you on a video call before you pack anything, and the price is agreed after that check.
  2. We pay 90% of the agreed price in advance, before your parcel reaches us.
  3. When the parcel arrives, we open it and match the item with what we saw on the video call.
  4. The remaining 10% is paid after that.

The courier charge is shared half-half: Sell Your Gadget pays half and you pay half. To make sure the match on arrival is straightforward, show everything clearly on the call and pack only what you showed. Our guide on preparing for the video call check walks through it, and is it safe to sell a camera by courier covers the common worries.

ID proof

We take a government ID proof at the time of pickup, to confirm your identity for verification. It is a standard check on any second hand purchase, and it protects genuine sellers as much as it protects us. Keep it ready with the camera.

The bill or invoice

A bill is not required to sell, but it helps in two ways. It adds to the price as one of the accessories, and it settles the question of how long ago you bought the camera. Without a valid invoice, a camera is treated as out of warranty, even if it was bought recently. If you have lost the bill, you can still sell.

Why the price can change between two visits to our site

The figure at the top of each model page follows the current market value of that model. If you checked a price a few days or weeks ago and it is different today, that is the reason, and the price offered is the current one. If you are ready to sell, check your price on the model page close to the day you book, so the figure you see is the figure you are paid. Our second hand camera price list shows the current "up to" rate for every model we buy, and our Sony ZV-E10 and Nikon D5600 pages are two of the most used.

A quick checklist for payment day

  • Government ID proof
  • Bank account or UPI details, if you want a transfer
  • The bill, if you have it
  • The camera charged, with the accessories and lenses you priced
  • Memory card removed and the camera reset, using our reset checklist
