5 Things to Know Before Selling a Camera in Mumbai

5 Things to Know Before Selling a Camera in Mumbai

September 18, 2026

Mumbai is a doorstep pickup city for Sell Your Gadget: there is no shop to visit, the agent comes to you, and the sale happens at your door, whether that door is in Andheri, Thane or Kharghar. Here are the five things every seller in the Mumbai region should know before booking, taken from how our pricing and pickup actually work and from our own booking records for the city, so nothing about the price or the process is a surprise when the agent arrives.

Nothing below quotes a rupee figure. The live figure for your model is on its page.

1. The price on the page is for the body only

Every camera page on this site shows a body-only price. Each lens is a separate line, quoted on its own and added to the same total. Three in four pickup bookings from Mumbai on this site included at least one lens, and the cameras we bought from Mumbai sellers between February and August 2026 came with more lenses than bodies.

So when you check your price:

  • Look up the body, for example Canon EOS 1300D, Nikon D5300 or Sony Alpha A7 III.
  • Then add each lens by the exact name printed on its barrel, letters included. AF-P and AF-S, VR and VR II, STM and IS II are different lines.
  • A lens can also be sold on its own at sell camera lens, with or without the body.

If your model has no page, as the Canon 700D, the most-booked model in our Mumbai records, does not, send one photo and we identify and quote it by hand.

2. The condition grade you pick is checked, so pick it honestly

There are four grades: Flawless, Good, Average and Below Average. The figure at the top of a model page is the maximum for Flawless. Your figure depends on the grade, on how long ago you bought the camera, and on the accessories you still have (box, charger, battery, bill, bag; none is required).

At the pickup the agent checks the front, the back with the screen on, the top plate, the base with the serial number, the sensor and mount with the lens off, and the accessories, and records two short videos: the camera powering on and firing the shutter, and the information screen. If it matches what you entered, the price stands. If something material is different, you are re-quoted with the reason and you are free to decline. Picking Good when the screen is scratched only means a re-quote at the door, so it is easier to be exact from the start. The grade logic is explained in what decides a used camera's price.

3. Check the lenses for fungus before you price them

This is the Mumbai-specific one. Cameras stored through the monsoon in a cupboard without a dry box are where lens fungus starts, and fungus, haze and internal dust change a lens's grade. Look through each lens against a light before you enter it on the form, so the figure you see online is the figure you are paid. Checking a camera lens before selling shows exactly what to look for.

While you are at it: we do not buy dead cameras, so charge the battery the night before; a flat battery looks the same as a dead body. Copy your photos off the card and format it (the card is not required), and clear the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth pairing and reset the menu, following back up, reset and unpair your camera. If a body has failed for good, its working lenses can still be sold on their own.

4. You need a government ID, and you choose how you are paid

A government ID proof is checked at every pickup. Payment is on the spot after the check, by bank transfer, UPI or cash. In our Mumbai bookings more sellers chose a UPI app (Google Pay leading) than cash; cash was about four in ten, and a few chose bank transfer. Above Rs 10,000 we prefer bank transfer, so have the account details or UPI ID ready. Our guide on how payment works when you sell a used camera covers each option.

5. Pick the slot that suits you; most people book for the next day

Pickup is free across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane. Book the slot on the model page after the OTP; the day and time are then confirmed with you on the phone before the agent travels. Just over half of Mumbai bookings chose the 11 AM to 2:30 PM slot, and three in four bookings were made for the next day. If you are in an office in BKC, Powai or Airoli and need an evening slot, say so on the call.

Our bookings have come from Thane more than from any other single locality, then Navi Mumbai, Andheri, Kalyan, Goregaon, Malad, Panvel, Borivali and Kandivali, and from beyond the city limits in Dombivli, Vasai, Virar, Mira Road and Bhiwandi. The list from our records, with the pin-code split, is on the sell used camera in Mumbai page; the towns beyond the city are covered in free pickup in Thane, Navi Mumbai, Kalyan, Panvel, Vasai and Virar. If you are outside the region, in Nashik or Pune's outskirts for example, call or WhatsApp +91 95608 22859 first; Pune itself has our Katraj store, described in selling a camera in Pune.

One more: what Mumbai sellers actually sell us

Canon and Nikon are about seven in ten Mumbai bookings and DSLRs roughly two thirds, led by the Canon EOS 700D, 1300D and 1200D and the Nikon D5300 and D5600. Among the cameras we actually bought from Mumbai sellers in 2026, though, the bodies that came in most often were mirrorless: the Sony A6100 and A7 III, Canon R50 and Nikon Z50. And Mumbai sends us more GoPro bookings than any other city we serve. How each of these is priced is covered in second-hand DSLR price in Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai. The same pickup covers lenses, drones under 250 g, action cameras, video cameras and gaming consoles: price each on its own section, sell drone, sell action camera, sell gaming console, and mention everything on the booking call so one slot covers it all.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a Sell Your Gadget store in Mumbai?

No. Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane are served by free doorstep pickup: the agent comes to your home or office, checks the camera in front of you and pays on the spot. Our nearest store is in Pune, and the others are in Delhi and Chandigarh/Mohali.

What if the agent's check does not match what I entered?

You are re-quoted with the reason, and you can decline. The price stands whenever the camera matches what you entered.

Is the bill or box needed?

No. Each accessory adds to the figure, but none is required to sell.

Can I sell just my lenses, or just a GoPro?

Yes. Each lens is its own line and can be sold on its own, and action cameras have their own section. Both go in the same pickup.
