How to tell them apart

The model name is on the front of the body below the Nikon badge, and on the base plate next to the serial number. Where the badge is worn:

• Z30 vs Z50: the Z30 has no viewfinder hump; the Z50 has an electronic viewfinder above the mount.
• Z50 vs Z50 II: the Z50 II has a larger grip, a fully articulating side-flip screen and a dedicated "Picture Control" button on top; the original Z50's screen tilts down under the body.
• Z fc: unmistakable, with dedicated shutter-speed, ISO and exposure-compensation dials on the top plate in the style of Nikon's film cameras.
• Z5, Z6, Z6 II, Z6 III: all full-frame with a similar shape. The Z6 II and Z6 III have two card slots (SD and CFexpress); the Z6 has one XQD/CFexpress slot; the Z5 has two SD slots. The Z6 III shows a different top-plate display.

The lens that usually comes with it

On our quote form, the lens most often added with a Z30 is the Nikkor Z DX 16-50 mm; with the Z50 it is the 16-50 mm or the DX 18-140 mm; with the Z5 and Z6 it is the Nikkor Z 24-70 mm f/4 S. The lens is always a separate line with its own condition grade; the figure on the camera page is for the body only. What we check on a Nikon Z body

The sequence is the same for every camera: front, back with the screen on, top plate, base with the serial number, sensor and mount with the lens removed, accessories laid out, and two short videos of the camera powering on and firing the shutter and of the information screen. On Z bodies the points that matter most:

• The sensor, exposed once the lens is off. The agent looks for dust and marks straight away.
• The screen hinge on the Z50 II, Z30 and Z fc (side-flip) and the tilt mechanism on the Z50, Z5 and Z6.
• The viewfinder, with the camera on, on every body except the Z30.
• The Z-mount contacts and autofocus with the lens fitted.
• The card slot doors, especially the two-slot bodies.
• EN-EL25 batteries on the DX bodies and EN-EL15 series on the full-frame bodies; spares add to the price.

Is the 16-50 mm kit lens included in the Z50 price?

No. The Z50 page figure is for the body only. The 16-50 mm, 18-140 mm or any other lens is quoted as a separate line with its own condition grade.

How do I tell a Z50 from a Z50 II?

The Z50 II has a side-flip articulating screen, a deeper grip and a Picture Control button on top. The original Z50's screen tilts down under the body. The name is also printed on the front and the base plate.

Do you buy the Z6 III and the Z8?
