Sony's full-frame Alpha range has more model names than any other line we buy, and the names look alike: A7C and A7C II, A7R IV and A7R V, A7S II and A7S III. People searching "Sony A7C second hand price" or "Sony A7 V second hand" often end up on the page for a neighbouring model. This guide shows how to find your exact model in ten seconds from the label on the camera, what we check on a full-frame Sony, and what to do with the lens. Our purchase records for February to September 2026 show how these bodies actually move: 23 A7 III and 20 A7 IV bodies bought from sellers across India, 4 A7C bodies between March and June 2026, and single units of the A7C II, A7R IV, A7R V, A7S III and A7 II in the same period. The A7 III came with the FE 28-70 mm kit lens more often than with any other lens.

Find your model from the ILCE code

Every Sony Alpha body carries its Sony model code on the label on the base plate, and that code is more reliable than the name on the front. The pattern is ILCE, then the number, then a letter for the line and an M for the generation:

• ILCE-7C is the A7C; ILCE-7CM2 is the A7C II
• ILCE-7M2 is the A7 II; ILCE-7M3 is the A7 III (often written A7M3 or "Sony M3"); ILCE-7M4 is the A7 IV ("Sony M4"); ILCE-7M5 is the A7 V
• ILCE-7RM2, 7RM3, 7RM4 and 7RM5 are the A7R II, III, IV and V; ILCE-7R with no M is the original A7R
• ILCE-7SM2 and 7SM3 are the A7S II and III; ILCE-7S is the original A7S

So "Sony M4 second hand price" is the A7 IV, and "Sony M3" is the A7 III. If the label is worn, the Version entry in the camera's setup menu shows the model name, and that is the screen the agent records at pickup.

What changes the price on a full-frame Sony

The price form uses the same four inputs for every camera:

1. The model page, which sets the maximum for that model in Flawless condition.
2. The condition grade: Flawless, Good, Average or Below Average.
3. How long ago you bought it: under 4 months, 4 to 12, 12 to 18, 18 to 24 or over 24 months.
4. The accessories you still have: box, charger, battery, bill, bag. None is required to sell.

The lens is priced separately

The figure on a Sony body page is for the body only. Sony E-mount lenses are quoted on their own line, each in its own grade, and the catalogue currently holds 32 Sony lenses along with Sigma and Tamron glass for E-mount. A 24-70 mm f/2.8 or a 70-200 mm often carries as much value as the body it sits on, so do not leave it off the form. What we check on these bodies

• The sensor, with the lens off, for scratches, marks and dust that does not blow away. On the A7R bodies a mark on the sensor shows in every frame, so this is the first check.
• The card slots. The A7C, A7C II, A7 II, A7R, A7R II, A7S and A7S II have a single slot; the A7 III, A7 IV, A7 V, A7R III, A7R IV, A7R V and A7S III have two. Every slot should read and write.
• The rear screen and the viewfinder, for dead pixels, marks under the glass and a working eye sensor.
• The mount, for wear on the bayonet and clean contacts, and that a lens locks with no play.
• The hot shoe, which on the A7C II, A7R V and A7S III also carries the digital audio interface, so bent pins matter.
• Shutter count, from the information screen, as one input to the grade rather than a cut-off. See how to check your shutter count.
• Ports and doors, and a power-on video with a few shutter actuations, the same one the agent records.

If the body matches what you entered, the quote holds and you are paid at the door by bank transfer, UPI or cash. If something material is different, the agent re-quotes on the spot with the reason and you are free to decline.

Frequently asked questions

Is the A7C II priced as an A7C?

No. The A7C II has its own page and its own maximum. Check the label: ILCE-7CM2 is the A7C II, ILCE-7C is the A7C.

My A7R II is more than two years old. Is it still worth selling?

Yes. Over 24 months is simply the oldest age bracket. The model page figure and the condition grade still decide most of the price, and a clean A7R II with a low shutter count grades well.

Does the body price include my FE 28-70 mm or 24-105 mm lens?

No. The body page figure is for the body only. Add the lens on the next step of the form and it is quoted on its own line, in its own grade, and paid for together with the body at pickup.

I have a Sony A9 or A1. Are they listed?
